Brake cam for the drum brake of the Vespa 160 GS/180 SS by SIP SPARE PARTS.
Without the brake cam,no brake shoes can be operated.
This important part wears out after long use.
Unfortunately it has been out of production by PIAGGIO for a long time.
Therefore SIP SPARE PARTS manufactures it again in very high quality.
Replacement for worn components
Optimum braking power
Optimum modulation of braking power
The drum brakes are controlled mechanically,i.e.
by brake lever or brake pedal, brake cable, lever, shaft and brake cam.
The brake cam is located between the brake pads and spreads them apart during braking so that they press against the drum and brake.
In the process, the metal of the cam rubs against the metal of the brake pads and wears off over time.
Lubricating with copper paste or a high-temperature grease will counteract the wear, but even if the brake has always been meticulously worked on,wear can still be expected after many years of use.
A wear edge on the sliding surface of the cam not only worsens the braking effect, but is also noticeable in the modulation of the brake.
Ideally, the braking effect can be precisely controlled or modulated via the brake lever, the brake pedal.
If,for example, the rear brake locks,it should be possible to release it controllably by reducing the pressure on the brake pedal.
However,if the cam is worn,it can happen that the pressure on the brake pedal is reduced, but the brake itself sticks and the brake pads are not reset evenly by the spring.
Especially with brakes,it should be clear to everyone that these components should be in top condition without any ifs and buts.
Therefore,SIP urgently recommends that all brake components be regularly checked for wear and replaced.
Note for assembly:The middle segment of the shaft (between the O-rings) is designed to serve as a grease reservoir.
As the shaft is mounted directly in the aluminium housing of the motor,a grease pack is therefore recommended,e.g.
copper paste.
This prevents water from penetrating between the shaft and the bore of the housing, thus preventing effective contact corrosion.
Note for Vespa PX and 200 cc riders:Many older engines still use a brake arm that is about 50 mm long.
By replacing the short brake arm with the 65 mm long brake arm of the later PX Lusso or 200 cc models, the braking power is significantly increased, but with a slight loss of dosing ability.
Conclusion:The brake cam from SIP SPARE PARTS is an important spare part for the safe function of the brake.

The brake camshafts ensure the movement of the brake cable pushes the brake shoes against the interior of the brake drum.
This essential component is prone to wear and tear and following long periods of use must be replaced.
Regrettably PIAGGIO no longer produce this item.
To solve this problem we have had them reproduced as part of our high quality SIP Spareparts range of replacement parts.
