If the rubbers are too soft，over-aged，crushed，cracked or used up，the Vespa’s directional stability is limited，straight-line stability suffers and the handling becomes wobbly and tippy.

Overly hard rubbers，often recommended for racing，improve tracking stability，but they transmit more vibrations to the bodywork and handlebars，and from there to the rider.

UV radiation and aggressive media such as engine oil，brake fluid，salt water，sand，dust and dirt often cause the rubbers to crack，discolour and sometimes even decompose.

Drive a screwdriver between the rubber and the crossbar and run spray oil (Ballistol，WD40) into the resulting gap.
Treat the rubber all around and then lever it out with a large screwdriver or assembly lever.
If a screwdriver cannot be driven in，the old rubbers can also be drilled at the edge to give the oil access.
Make sure that the edges of the sleeves have large chamfers.
Lubricate the rubbers and sleeves with washing-up liquid (Pril) or talcum powder.
Then press in the new rubbers，e.g.
with a large vice.
Or use a special tool.
